Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Kingswood Primary School we take the mental health and wellbeing of our pupils very seriously. For some children, some stages of their lives can be overwhelming, or difficult to manage which can then influence their learning.

Emotional Literacy Support Assistant – ELSA

Mrs Beere is a teaching assistant with many years’ experience of working with children and has been trained by Educational Psychologists to facilitate engaging sessions to help children manage their emotions. She can work with children individually, or as part of a group.

What is ELSA?

ELSA is a scheme developed by Educational Psychologists. It realises that children learn better if their emotional needs are met. Sessions cover topics such as self-esteem, anxiety, bereavement, managing challenging behaviour, transition to secondary school and friendship issues.

What happens in our sessions?

Our sessions are fun! Children will feel relaxed, safe and able to discuss anything. Often, we play games, do role play activities, or craft activities whilst learning ways to help manage emotions.

If we feel that your child would benefit from attending ELSA sessions, we will contact you. Please contact us if you feel this is something that would benefit your child.

We are also extremely fortunate to have the services of a BACP Counsellor/Psychologist who comes to our school weekly to work with children on a one-to-one basis.
